Journalists’ joy finds no bounds
SC upholds HC decision in 7th Wage Board Award case
Wednesday was indeed a remarkable and memorable day for the journalists and media workers of Pakistan as it brought smile on their faces.
After a long and untiring efforts and struggle workers got their rights endorsed by the Apex court of the country and got a seal of legality on their demands.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan announced the decision here on the petition filed by the newspaper owners challenging the decision given in favour of the media workers. After hearing arguments from both sides, the superior court had reserved the decision on the 7th Wage Board Award case the other day.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan in its historic decision upheld the verdict earlier announced by the Sindh High Court (SHC) giving all the benefits and arrears to the media workers and journalists besides increasing their salaries by 50%.
The superior court further ordered the petitioners i.e. the newspaper owners to bear and pay all the expenses incurred by the media workers on fighting out the legal battle in the case.
The decision is being celebrated throughout Pakistan and all the unions of journalists and media workers have expressed joy over it, including Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) and others.
Different functions were arranged by the Press Clubs including the National Press Club, and Rawalpindi Press Club where joyous journalists congratulated and embraced each other for getting their demands fulfilled finally after an unflinching struggle and legal fight with the newspaper owners.
