Massive exodus starts ahead of Eid

As Eid-ul-Azha approaches, residents of the twin cities have started departing for their hometowns to celebrate the occasion with their families.

The exodus continued the whole day Friday in swarmed bus and vegan terminals. People have to suffer a lot while traveling and waiting for catching conveyance at the terminals. Most vehicles were jam packed with more people than the capacity. The transporters have started fleecing them while availing the opportunity of the event by increasing fares.

During visits to different bus stands of Peshawar Morr, Faizabad and Pirwadhi, INFN came to know that despite over-charging, shortage of vehicles also reported adding to the miseries of the commuters traveling to their homes. The exchange of hot words and scuffles between transporters and passengers were seen at almost every vegan stand over the deserting of seats as well as the high fare.

A group of students who arrived in Pirwadhi in the morning at 8:00 o’clock could not get any vehicle till 2:00 pm. They have to suffer a lot. “This is not for the first time that we are facing this trouble but it is a routine matter. Every time when we have to go home from Islamabad for spending vacation with our family members, we have to suffer through this entire nuisance. There is no way to get out of this mess,” Shair Ali a university student told INFN.

The drivers say they have to overcharge because when they will return back after dropping this Eid going crowd, there will be no passengers due to Eid holidays and they have to cover the revenue loss and the costs.

The commuters, however, say they should be given some relief and adequate facilities for such a journey so that they can celebrate Eid with their families.
