ASI among three cops martyred, two wounded in police check-post attack in Shangala
At least three policemen including assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were martyred and two other sustained injuries on Saturday morning when militants attacked a police check-post located on Karwara-Chekasar road in shangla district, police sources said on Sunday.
According to police about a dozen of unknown militants opened indiscriminate firing at the police check-post early morning, as a result the on duty ASI, Aurangzaib, constable Javed, and an operative of the special force, Fazal Wakeel embraced martyrdom, while, the others cops manning on the post were wounded critically and they were shifted to hospital.
Militants fled the scene taking advantage of darkness providing no chance to cops for return fire, police added. Joint Funeral prayer of the three cops was offered in police lines at Alpuri where police officials and a large numbers of locals attended the ceremony and their dead bodies were left for their native towns after the prayer, police further added.
It said that ASI, Aurangzaib and Constable Javaid were ex-servicemen, hailing from Abbottabad and Fazal Wakeel was native of Chakat Karwara. Police said that First Information Report was registered against the unknown militants in Karwara police station and investigations were also launched. Security has been high alerted after the incident in the whole district and joint search operation by police and security forces has been launched, police told.
Police had intelligence that some of the militants had threat them for attack on the same, policeman told on anonymity. No one has claimed responsibility of the incident till compiling of this report. Member of national assembly (MNA), Amir Muqam, MPA, Muhammad Rashid, MPA, Fazlullah Khan, leader, Afsar-ul-Mulk, Maulana Rahat Hussain and residents of the area have condemned the incident and expressed grief over, and turned this act against the humanity.
It pertinent to mention that it is the first kind of incident on this route in shangla after the restoration of peace in the district, however, after the militants’ arrival in 2007-08, as they had established a check-post on the same rout and had also kidnapped security chief of the Khan Khor project, col. Khaqan Afzal, which had been released later on.
