Future of 500 Teachers Lurks in Uncertainty

Teachers made ‘rolling stones’ despite clear directives of Apex Court for regularization

Despite the ‘loud and clear’ orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan for regularizing the services of teachers serving under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), the fate of nearly 500 ‘nation builders’ is still undecided as they are wandering aimlessly in Capital Administration & Development Division (CAAD) for getting to know when their services will be regularized, a group of teachers told INFN.

Earlier these teachers were issued call letters from Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), as they were asked to appear for an interview before the commission for regularization. One person against one seat formula was decided and the interviews were to be started in August.

However, one day prior to the commencement of these interviews, the same were postponed and it was announced that they will be regularized by an Executive Order, an affected teacher told INFNB requesting anonymity.

A parliamentary committee headed by PPP leader Khursheed Shah in its recommendations decided in principle that all the teachers meeting the criteria will be regularized.

The lists of these teachers were prepared and sent to Secretary CAAD, Muhammad Junaid for his signatures. The same, however, have never materialized and the delaying tactics are being used under one pretext or another, another teacher lamented requesting his identity not to be disclosed.

We have been made rolling stones by the CAAD and different dates are being thrown our way as bait. Many teachers among us were made to work in the CAAD office, our colleagues did the clerical work by typing the excel files as the clerical staff inside CAAD was not willing to type and were unnecessarily delaying the file for regularization, they alleged.

There is confirmed news that the political leadership is committed to regularize the services of the teachers and honour the Supreme Court’s verdict, however, the bureaucracy is playing its notorious role be demonstrating the worst forms of delaying tactics and red-tape, they alleged concluding.
